Research Opportunities

I have diverse interests in the fields of biogeography, plant population and community ecology. I am happy to discuss the potential for graduate studies with motivated students at the MSc or PhD level who are excited about ecological research.

Graduate research projects can be developed with close ties to my own research program, or based on particular interests of the student, if appropriate. Our lab's research is primarily field-based, and most of our data collection occurs during the summer months in temperate, boreal, and arctic ecosystems. Please see the Research and Publications pages for descriptions of past and on-going projects.

Graduate students have the opportunity to collaborate with other researchers in the Geography and Biology departments here at Memorial University and other institutions. Please take a moment to read about the Department of Geography, School of Graduate Studies, and the excellent research facilities Memorial University has to offer.

Graduate studies require funding, and all eligible candidates are encouraged to apply for NSERC scholarships through their current institution. Potential students from Québec are encouraged to apply for FQRNT scholarships. Additional funding opportunities can be reviewed here.

Our lab is located in the unique city of St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador. It is the oldest city in North America and is located on a breathtakingly beautiful island at the edge of the North Atlantic. To learn more about the province, check out the Tourism Newfoundland and Labrador website.

If you are interested in joining the lab, please send me your CV, transcript, and a description of your research interests. You can find out how to reach me on the Contact page.
